What Is Sound Beginnings?

Sound Beginnings is a family music class designed for parents with children ages 0-4. Activities foster the bonding of parent to child and give parents tools they can use to play with their young children all week long in a creative, delightful, encouraging way. Sound Beginnings was created to give children a ā€œjump startā€ on music learning. It exists for parents who wants to take advantage of more of the early music window and provide structured music experiences during the flexible developmental phase of the brain.

By enrolling in Sound Beginnings, you are agreeing to my registration policies listed below. 

Enroll and Reserve Materials

At this time, you will need to pay Let's Play Music for materials (prices below) via the enrollment website, which will be shipped to me. Tuition is due at the first class. Please follow the steps below!

ā€¢ Log in to select the student you are enrolling or create a new student
ā€¢ Reserve class materials by selecting a ā€œComplete Setā€ for the first child and add individual items as needed for siblings
ā€¢ All materials will be shipped to the studio and they will be distributed at our first class

**PLEASE NOTE** Please double check your selected materials before you pay-- it is very easy to accidentally order add-ons. If you select a SET from the drop down menu, you don't need to check any boxes for extra materials *unless you want them*.

Watch for Welcome Email

Once enrolled, be on the look out for a welcome email from me! I will double check your enrollment to make sure the correct materials were ordered.

Registration Policy
By registering for Sound Beginnings, you agree to this policy:

  • The Online Enrollment payment are needed to hold a spot for your child(ren) in class.
  • Once materials have shipped, they cannot be refunded. 
  • Materials ordered by the registration deadline will be available for pick up at the first class. 
  • Information given during online enrollment will not be sold or shared.
  • It is anticipated that your child will remain enrolled in the studio throughout the entire two month summer semester of Sound Beginnings. If you choose to withdraw mid-semester, the full semester fee is due to Little Dell Music Studio.
  • Enrollment in the Sound Beginnings program purchases a spot in the class, which means you are responsible for the payment of the full semester even if you / your child misses lessons, take weeks off, or quits in the middle of the semester. 
  • Make up classes are not guaranteed; though make ups will be offered to families who miss their regularly scheduled class, refunds or tuition credits will not be offered if a family is unable to attend a make up class.

Sound Beginnings is a family class designed for children ages 0-4 and their parent.

The curriculum is organized into six non-sequential semesters. Each semester includes 15 sessions over a 4-month period. For more curriculum details, visit the curriculum page.

Classes are 30 minutes, taught weekly.

Each semester includes access to an original album of semester music available to stream via the Let's Play Music app, and digital download, a Student Workbook, and a quality percussion instrument (or prop). A one-time purchase of a Sound Beginnings Tote Bag is required.

The cost for materials is $35 each semester. The Tote Bag is $7.50.

Class size varies from about 5-12 children.

It has been well documented that children in group settings learn and perform better. They are more comfortable and stimulated in this environment. They thrive on the synergy and playful interaction of the Sound Beginnings class.

Parent involvement in music training is crucial. The parent/caregiver attends with the child every week and reviews class activities at home.

Sound Beginnings adheres to the philosophy that the voice is the first musical instrument. Most of class time is spent singing. The voice is trained to sing in tune, to sing naturally and openly, to sing in harmony, and to sing accompanied. In early childhood development, specific tone, placement or support instruction is not completely beneficial. Sound Beginnings is not a performing group.

Yes. Sound Beginnings is non-sequential, meaning that students can begin and end with any semester. There are no prerequisites.

Students may continue through the 4 semesters of Sound Beginnings until age 5. At the age of either 4 or 5, they may begin Letā€™s Play Music!

Sound Beginnings is full of songs, games and activities that expose children to important musical and preschool concepts and skills. It incorporates the philosophies of Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze, adapted specifically for children ages 0-4. Classical music is introduced with ā€œmovementā€ that will forever endear children to this genre. There are numerous innovative, creative ideas for internalizing music, and ear training is emphasized from the start. Sound Beginnings is an excellent precursor to Letā€™s Play Music and Kindergarten.

Your child will LOVE it! You will love it because you will see him/her develop and demonstrate both musical and preschool skills. Your relationship with your child will grow as you enjoy class time and practice time together, in a playful, nurturing environment. Your outlook on playing with your child in a musical way will never be the same!
